Educators at all levels share a set of opportunities and challenges in making a successful future possible for their students. How can secondary schools ( public schools, private schools, charter schools, virtual schools) and post secondary institutions work together to provide post secondary opportunities for students during their high school years?  Let’s explore the possibilities and unravel the details needed to make these programs successful for the high school, the university, and the student.

EI speakers, Sandy Mers and Sally Summerfield, lead you through the steps of uncovering the opportunities you can create for your students.  The team instructs you on all key points required for a successful dual credit program.  Key points include:

  • Communication– Who do we talk with at each stage? What information does each stakeholder need to have?
  • Buy Buy in – How do we get buy-in from instructors, unions, board members, students, parents, secondary and post secondary administration?
  • Costs – Need we say more? maginative ways to make the program affordable for all participants.
  • Details..Details – They say that the “devil is in the detail” and they are right.  What details need to be established on both sides of the table?  Criteria for student participation? Identification of courses?  Required paperwork?
  • Timeline?..... Once it Has Begun – Key players and their roles once the agreements have been established
  • Gather,Evaluate and Report Data – How do you know if what you did got the results you intended?  Data!  Who was served?  What was successful and what needs tweaked?  How do you make the data usable to students, schools, and the media.
  • Next Steps – Your initial program is successful.  Now what?  Practice looking “outside the box” to tailor your program for the changing requirements of your individual situation.
